A Drover's Story

"As a Drover, the most cattle I moved in one year was 18,000 head. The longest was around 2,000 miles and took us 28 weeks and 3 days, moving 12,500 head of cattle to Walgett with just three good stockmen and a few Jackaroos.

Eight week trips was the usual here in the Outback. At times you would need to swim the stock through flooded rivers. Our horses never stopped working, you needed to look after them well.

Sometimes you started out with eight men and finish the drove with three. You have a head stockman......................... "
