Description
' Australia Rocks ' Series by Lexa Harpell.
Rocks have a history - they have a story.
The fascination for rocks comes from how they were formed over millions of years. When you take the time to look and admire their forms, textures and colours, you begin to feel small within the universe and time.
Scenes from the spiritual ‘Hands on Rock’ Ulan, New South Wales, Australia.
No one knows for sure the age or significance of the ‘painted’ hands on the rocks in the caves. Yet, they appear to be mainly children’s hands – and could have been from an Indigenous family from the area.
Apparently the Aboriginal cave paintings/rock art used crushed rock from the area mixed with animal fats (rather than mixing with water) which impregnated into the rock and withstand the test of time.
The hands would have been placed on the rock wall and the ‘paint’ blown from the mouth to produce a stencil effect.
