Description
Dublin's Kilmanham Gaol has a long, brutal, horrid history.
Member of the Easter Uprising were imprisoned and executed here.
Public hangings were common at the front of the prison. Housing men, women and children - at times in the same cell which could hold up to five people. Not a pretty time.
Thousands of prisoners from this gaol alone were sent to Australia as convicts to colonise the country and use their 'free' labour!
