Description
Preserved NOT sanitised!
What I love about this gaol is that they have preserved as much of the original structures without 'polishing it up' and becoming sanitsed. You still 'feel' the essence of this prison.
Dublin's Kilmanham Gaol has a long, brutal, horrid history.
Members of the Easter Rising were imprisoned and executed here.
Public hangings were common at the front of the prison. Housing men, women and children - at times in the same cell which could hold up to five people. Not a pretty time.
Thousands of prisoners from this gaol were shipped to Australia in the early 1800's as convicts to colonise and use as 'free' labour.

Wow, fascinating and frightening place! You've captured it's starkness and it's lovely bones beautifully!

wonderful capture! I like the part about not being sanitised, that really makes the preservation so much better!

thanks Joan, yeh I've been to many historical places and they feel like a Disneyland attraction and I've left feeling 'jipped' haha

one time I was actually 'ushered' to the group with a long lecture along the way.... What, was I going to steal something??? IOh maybe they would have banished me to Australia! haha
