Bay of Fires Morning by Lexa Harpell
Sunrise ar Cozy Corner beach at the Bay of Fires.
Orange lichen covers the rocks at the Bay of Fires on Tasmania's east coast. Water and wind erode the lichen in places forming fabulous contrasts.
White rock is left bare as the waves wash the bright orange lichen away, leaving a stunning display.
This lichen grows in many places in Tasmania, although Bay of Fires has the most condensed and largest amount in one place.
As early European discoverers sailed into the bay, they thought the bay was on fire upon seeing the coastline rocks covered in this bright orange lichen.
So they named this area 'Bay of Fires.'

Beautiful capture Lexa, the colours of the Bay of Fires always always amaze me ;)
Lexa Harpell replied:
Thanks Jan, yes the colour palette is quite different to 'the big island'. All of Australia blows me away with its vivid natural colours.
