Description
Salt Lake of Lake Hart by Lexa Harpell
A long anticipated visit to Lake Hart in South Australia - to walk across the white expanse of salt and photograph the patterns. Only to find the salt lake had a thin layer of water covering the slabs of salt! Apparently, the lake had not had water for several years!!!
Well, this is Australia and anything can happen. After my initial disappointment, I wandered around and across the lake (the water cover was only a few centimentres deep) and saw another beauty.
The landscape around the lake has the iconic red rusted dirt and vibrant foliage well known to Outback Australia. Add the pastel blues and magenta from the water and a big blue sky , it was a sight to behold.
The old timber footings of the ramps remain from a long ago industry harvesting the salt from this 61 square mile lake. At its height, 9,000 tons of salt was harvested annually.

Great capture, Lexa. Similar landscapes we have here, in WA with salt lakes ;)

Thanks Jan, at first I was a little disappointed with the sight of water, then realised it had its own beauty not many see.
