Description
Freight Trains of the Outback by Lexa Harpell.
Long freight trains (and road trains) make me smile and make my heart soar. It's a sign that you are in Outback Australia!
Both are the backbone of the Outback and lifelines to transport goods across the country through the vastness of the land. I've counted (yes it was laborious to count, but I wanted to KNOW) between 80-100 carriages with several engines pulling their load.
When you see one of these trains, they will generally sound their horns and you give a huge wave back to them. They rarely see a person on their long monotonous trips and it is an acknowledgment that they see you, and you see them creating a welcomed human connection.
It's called the Outback wave!
Oh yes, this sight made me smile when I watched and then tried to count the carriages near Lake Hart in Outback South Australia.
