Description
The 'Great Ocean Road' is a famous winding coastal road with undeniable views -which included the Twleve Appostles.
What most do not know (including myself at the time) is that the road was built by over 3,000 returned servicemen from WWl.
Reading the information on the plaques of why it was built and who for drew a huge lump in my throat and tears welled up in my eyes.
Knowing this, my journey along this road became more than just a 'pretty drive'.
We have much to be thankful for...
Between in 1919-1932 - the winding coastline was carved out to produce 243kms stretch of road. Mostly by hand.
The Memorial Arch was built in their honour and to the fallen 'diggers' of the war.
**This massive project gave these men a job, food on the table and more importantly a purpose - a purpose to honour their 'mates' who did not return from the war.
