Outback Australia Series by Lexa Harpell.
"You were always asking yourself - Water, where is it?" We could move 1,000 head of cattle with just a few good men."
I have been privileged to interview many people from around Australia for my upcoming book. Hands that Built a Nation.
Travelling through outback Queensland, all the drovers and station owners told me that had to utmost respect and high regard for the Aboriginal Stockmen/Cattlemen that moved the cattle in the harsh outback and Top End of Australia.
"They were quick learners, smarter than most head drovers. They knew the land, they knew the cattle and they sure knew how to ride."
Spending a day sitting under the trees in outback Northern Territory, I was honoured to listen to two Cattlemn's stories and capture their hands. They moved so elegantly, like a choreographer ballet as they told me their stories. I was captivated for hours.
Sadly, the old ways of mustering and moving cattle is slowly being lost - lost to quadbikes, helicopters, trucks. An so the skills die with this generation.....
