Description
The raw, colourful mining landscape on the west coast of Tasmania, though some may think it is Mars!!!
Colours from the natural ore and chemicals to extract the ore saturates the landscape producing quite a fascinating scene.
The Mt Lyell "Iron Blow" Is where it all began for Mt Lyell. It was first mined by three gold prospectors who pegged out 50 acres of land in the Valley "Chamouni" in 1883 - instead of finding gold, they found a huge outcrop of copper. So the mining boom began in Tasmania later discovering a wealth of a large variety of minerals in the area.
Nearby Zeehan - called Silver City' was at the time, the second largest city in Tasmania and boomed with people and businesses alike.
Gone are the glory days, wet mining still operates in the area on a smaller scale.
