Description

The Open Cut mine of Iron Blow on Tasmania's west coast. The mining landscape on the west coast of Tasmania, though some may think it was Mars!!!
Colours from the natural ore and chemicals to extract it saturates the landscape producing quite a fascinating scene.

The Mt Lyell "Iron Blow" Is where it all began for Mt Lyell. It was first mined by three gold prospectors who pegged out 50 acres of land in the Valley "Chamouni" in 1883 - instead of finding gold, they found a huge outcrop of copper. So the mining boom began in Tasmania later discovering a wealth of a large variety of minerals in the area.
Nearby Zeehan - called Silver City' was at the time, the second largest city in Tasmania and boomed with people and businesses.
