Lichen Covered Rocks Bay of Fires by Lexa Harpell.
Orange lichen covers the rocks at the Bay of Fires in Tasmania's east coast. Water and wind erodes the lichen in places forming fabulous contrasts.
White rock is left bare as the waves wash the bright orange lichen away, leaving a stunning display.
This lichen grows in many places in Tasmania, although Bay of Fires has the most condensed and largest amount in one place.
Early white discovers thought the bay was on fire. Named for the number of large rocks covered in bright orange lichens.

Love the colors of those rocks and that person walking on them looks so small. Great perspective on the size of these rocks. G+
