Description
Moon Plains 2 - Kanku Breakaways - South Australia by Lexa Harpell.
Kanku Breakaways Conservation Park in South Australia has some of the most fascinating landscape and rock formations I've seen.....to date.
From multi colours sandstone mesa rock formations to spongy moon plains to landscapes that glisten in the sun from selinite scattering the landscape of brownish green.
This lunar type landscape was formed when the water evaporated from a large inland sea, exposing the seafloor and mesa topped sandstone and ironstone 'islands'.
This area is known as Moon Plains. The landscape of this area is dead flat for as far as you can see and the surface is rather spongy to walk on and quartsite rocks scatter the surface. Moon Plains 2 was captured into the morning sun when the surface of the rocks glistened.
Kanku Breakaways is about 35 kms from the quirky mining town of Coober Pedy in outback South Australia.
*An utterly fascinating place where movies such as Mad Max and Priscilla Queen of the Desert have been filmed.
