The markings of a working life. I'm fascinated with history and its relics, they evoke stories of a time passed, their life, their work. There is an unspeakable attachment and fascination to our pastAn old sheep shearing stand with motor above. these replaced the old style hand clippers.
Sheep shearing is back breaking work as the shearer is bent over in the one position for up to 8-10 hours each day.
A good shearer could shave around 200 sheep in a day! There was always fun rivalry between the shearers on who could shear the most - I guess it would relieve the monotonous, repetitiveness of the job.
Some shears wore a back harness which held them in position (see hanging on left hand side) to avoid excessive strain on their backs.
