Zeehan - Silver City of the past. The old faded worn railway sign with a rusted locomotive of the period.
Zeehan is one of the oldest areas known to early settlers in Tasmania. Establish as a mining field in 1882 when large ore deposits were found nearby and later, silver was found around Zeehan - it became known as 'Silver City'.
The wealth of the city grew quickly and by 1910 its population rose to over 10,000 boasting a 3.5km main road of shops, cinemas and grand buildings. Today it is very few residents, yet many relics of the past glory days to view and ponder its history.
