Description
Rocks of Litchfield - the vibrant rich colours and forms are mesmerising.
This formation was located in a shallow watercourse (in winter) in a remote area where the rocks are 'polished' smooth by the monsoon rains and flow of the river.
Litchfield National Park covers around 1,500 km2 - is a relatively small, compact national park in comparison to its neighbour, Kakadu National Park in the Northern Territory, Australia.
Known for it beautiful waterfalls and swimming holes - which you can swim in during the winter months - after the park rangers have ensured there are no more crocodiles in the water - in saying so, it can never be 100% accurate!
I make sure I can see the bottom of the smaller waterholes to take a dip!
The waterfalls are Wangi Falls, Florence Falls, Tolmer Falls, Tjaetaba Falls, Cascade Falls and Surprise Creek Falls. Swimming is a must in Buley Rockhole which cascades over rock formations creating many small rock pools to dip in.
There are many beautiful hiking tracks, 4WD tracks to the Lost City and more.
