Description
'Sugan' is Gaelic for straw rope. Early times in Ireland rope was woven out of straw. Used for fishing and climbing down those incredibly steep cliffs Ireland is renown for.
In times gone by women used to climb down the cliffs to fetch birds eggs and debris washed ashore. Usually the men would be out fishing or farming elsewhere to make a living.
Many household items were woven from straw including seats for chairs.
