Description
Ireland Rocks Series by Lexa Harpell.
The hues of a summer twilight on the Antrim Coast.
Ballintoy in County Antrim in Northern Ireland hosts some the country's most spectacular scenic coastlines with views across the waters to Scotland.
Sea birds use these soaring cliffs for their nests.
Near the famous Carrick-a-Rede (rock of the casting) Rope Bridge which spans 20 metres across the waters from the mainland to the tiny island of Carrickarede about 30 metres above the rocks below.
Salmon fishermen are thought to have built the first bridge to the island over 350 years ago.
Since then it has been rebuilt many times. Only in 2000 was a proper structure built using wire rope.
No longer used by salmon fishermen as there are few salmon swimming in the waters now during salmon season. The salmon come through the area to spawn in the River Bann and the River Bush.
