Description
View from the Past - Mungo Woolshed by Lexa Harpell.
Nestled in the UNESCO Mungo National Park sits the historic Mungo Woolshed.
Built in 1869 when Australia was riding high 'on the sheep's back' in the boom of Australia's pastoral industry.
Built from local long cypress pine trees, this old woodshed gives a glimpse into the past when tens of thousands of sheep grazed in this arid landscape.
The view is from inside the woolshed where the sheep would be sheered and their valuable wool exported around the world.
Mungo National Park is also home to the ancient Lunettes and 'Wall of China' in the Willandra Lakes Region which is heritage listed for its significance to the world for its natural and cultural landscape.
Australia has 4 such mixed site out of the 39 mixed UNESCO sites in the world.
