Description
Timeless Kakadu Series by Lexa Harpell
Early morning at the Gunlom rock pools.
Gunlom sits on the southern edge of World Heritage Listed - Kakadu National Park in the Northern Territory, Australia.
*One of only 25 World Heritage Listed sites - listed for both its natural and cultural significance to humanity in 1981 - UNESCO.
Gunlom is part of Waterfall Creek, one of the major tributaries of the upper South Alligator .
Ir certainly is one of those magical places. Weaving you way up the steep escarpment on natural stone 'steps' of sorts. It is only 1km directly up, yet cna be a bit challenging. Everyone stops and pauses every now and then - allowing others to descend - in actual fact we all want that little rest!!!
I'd gone the previous day and found many people enjoying the cascading water holes from the river - I wanted images without people cooling off in the water.
There were already people in the pools at 6am!! I got the shots I wanted then dipped into the cool, clear waters.
PS Saltwater crocodiles can't climb steep rocks!! So swimming - dipping is all good up there!
