Artist's Description

Untamed Northern Territory Series by Lexa Harpell.

Valley of the Winds - the outward domes are a restricted sacred site where visitors are not allowed to venture.

Formerly known as The Olgas by Europeans, Kata Tjuta lies around 60kms south of Uluru in the UNESCO Uluru - Kata Tjuta site in Central Australia.

These two magnificent rock formations are visited by millions of tourists from around the world. They rise majestically out of the flat, almost arid landscape bordering deserts.

Most visitors come to see Uluru, a single monolith, with its ever changing colours during the day and easy accessibility. Yet, I found Kata Tjuta far more fascinating, with a strong air of sacredness as you walk through the domes.

Kata Tjuta is made up of 36 domes created from conglomerate rock which are billions and billions of smooth rocks compressed together with sand and soil. It made my head spin to thinking of the enormity of this geological wonder.
