Description
Silhouette Sunset on Pamamaroo Lake by Lexa Harpell.
As of this date, New South Wales and parts of Queensland has been officially declared to be in a severe drought.
Rivers and lakes water levels are extremely low, some have dried up completely.
Yet there is always beauty to be found in these extreme, harsh times.
One of them is on Pamamaroo Lake, near Menindee in New South Wales.
Apparently, the lake is at 10% water capacity (so I was told). Exposing the thousands of trees which are normally submerged.
The vivid sunset over the lake expressed the tree skeletons so beautifully as stark silhouettes.
I sat on the thick sticky mud on the edge of the lake for about 2 hours waiting for the sun to show it's ever changing colours over the waterscape. Every movement made me sink slightly deeper in the mud. A tripod was out of the question, needed to be still and hold my breath each time I captured a scene. For me, it was well worth it - until later when I had to literally peel off my mud clagged clothing and boots!!!
