Description
Birds of the World Series by Lexa Harpell.
Sulphur-crested Cockatoos are native to Australia and belong to the parrot family. Growing to 17-21 cm in length with white overall plumage - tinged with yellow under feathers on their wings, tail and head cone.
They usually fly in large flocks around sunrise and sunset in the bush squarking quite loudly - then perch on high trees looking for food.
They can be demanding 'pets' - and some say they are cute and begin to feed them on their suburban balconies. Like clock work, they turn up for their feed. When the food stops, (or you go on holidays) they begin to 'vandalise' the timbers on homes by pecking and tearing the timber apart causing a great deal of damage.
They are also destructive to fruit and cereal crops - especially in their large numbers.
