Description
Walking Around Australia by Lexa Harpell.
The Australian Outback never ceases to put a smile on your face with the unexpected.
A small team of six camels laden with food, water, and essentials for one man and his dog's journey to walk around Australia.
Here they are walking along the iconic Oodnadatta Track into the umm town - mainly a Road House and a handful of homes.
Oodnadatta was the gateway to Central Australia back in the 1800's.
The end of the 'metal' train line and the beginning of the 'on foot' camel trains which took supplies through the deserts to Central Australia and beyond.
The camels and the Afghan Cameleers were pivotal to the success of the progress and development of the aridest lands in Australia.
So, this sight and place had a lot more meaning than 'just a walk around Australia'.
Walking for over three years, they are now more than halfway covering an estimated 6,000kms...so far......
FUN FACT: Australia has the largest herd of wild camels in the world. Estimated to be between 750,000 to 1 Million!
