Description
'Australia Rocks' Series by Lexa Harpell.
An intimate look at Kata Tjuta, Central Australia - Northern Territory, Australia.
Kata Tjuta was created by sedimentary, conglomerate rocks. Millions of small rounded rocks cemented together with fine granules of sand and mud.
Once high mountains, the area eroded by weather and water over the past 600 million years.
Unlike Uluru - a mere 25kms away - which is coarse grained sandstone rich in the mineral feldspar. The earth pushed the formation on its side and the sediments run vertical, rather than horizontal.
Rocks have a history - they have a story.
The fascination for rocks comes from how they were formed over millions of years. When you take the time to look and admire their forms, textures and colours, you begin to feel small within the universe and time.
Some of the incredible rocks from Kata Tjuta - Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, Northern Territory, Australia.
