Description
Relics from rural Australia Series Images by Lexa Harpell.
Retired and rusted sleeper pegs from Tullah, Tasmania.
The 'working' railway line was established in 1900 when silver ore was discovered in the area. The track was a standard (for the time) 2' gauge and only ran for 7kms to cart timbers into the town. Only 600mtrs of the track is left.
Piles of sleepers, pegs and other items remain as a feature in the town.
It ran three locomotives - Wee Georgie Wood, Wee Mary and a Krauss engine named "Puppy".
Today, it is a small attraction with Wee Georgie running once a month by volunteers.
The markings of a working life. I'm fascinated with history and its relics, they evoke stories of a time passed, their life, their work. There is an unspeakable attachment and fascination to our past
