Description
Road Trains of the Outback by Lexa Harpell.
Road trains make me smile and make my heart soar. It's a sign that you are in Outback Australia!
These massive trucks are the backbone of the Outback, transporting fuel and goods to all the small towns in the middle of nowhere. They are their lifelines to survival.
They are usually 53.5 metres long with 3-4 axles and depending of the weight they are running on 62 wheels (yes I counted them).
These road trains were waiting on the side of the highway, waiting for the ground of their destination to dry after a rainfall - otherwise, they would bet bogged.
They were to pick up minerals from a nearby mine. The back road train was to deliver fuel for the mine.
Oh yes, this sight and stop made me smile when I stopped in the Outback in South Australia.
